The Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2024, which guarantees paperless governance and the digitization of the national economy, was primarily approved by the federal cabinet on Tuesday. The act also establishes the Pakistan Digital Authority and the National Digital Commission.
The Act, which also sought to digitise the services industry in compliance with international norms, was reviewed by the law ministry at the request of the cabinet, which convened under the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The National Digital Commission, which would have members from both the federal and provincial levels and be led by the prime minister, would function as a policymaking body under the Act.
In addition, a Pakistan Digital Authority will be set up to carry out Digital Pakistan’s goals.
The Authority would have administrative and financial independence as a corporate body.
