Speaking at the Pakistan-China Business Forum, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb gave a brief overview of the nation’s economic situation, telling the audience that all economic indicators were trending positively.
“This fiscal year’s 6.25 percent GDP growth in agriculture is a real bright spot,” he stated.
He stated that in terms of the current account, remittances had remained stable and that exports had increased in the traditional textile and agricultural industries due to bumper crops and information technology.
According to the finance minister, the nation’s current account deficit for this fiscal year would be less than $1 billion.
According to him, Pakistan and the IMF were negotiating a longer-term, more comprehensive programme.
