Israel pounds Gaza as UN Security Council meets over deadly strike

On Wednesday, Israel launched more attacks on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where its forces are engaged in combat with Hamas terrorists, following a meeting of the UN Security Council to deliberate over a fatal incident that provoked widespread condemnation.
International efforts to secure a ceasefire are still at a standstill, and Israel has not indicated that it will change its path despite growing concerns about the civilian casualties of its attack on Hamas.

Early on Wednesday morning, AFP reporters in Rafah reported fresh attacks, following reports from Palestinian security sources and witnesses that Israeli tanks had entered the city centre.
“People are inside their homes right now because Israeli drones are shooting at anyone who moves,” claimed local Abdel Khatib.
