Due to the intense heat, the Punjab government on Monday declared additional seven-day school holidays, in response to protests from private schools against extended breaks.
The holidays were declared by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar in a post on X. The minister distributed a notice informing everyone that from May 25 to May 31, all public and private schools would be closed.
We have chosen to provide the holidays starting this week, he stated, taking into account the opinions of the parents and the severity of the weather.
The minister of education stated that protecting students from the severe effects of the weather was his ministry’s top priority and that private institutions holding exams would be granted conditional permission to remain open.
