In order to allow journalists to openly report on significant problems without fear, President Asif Ali Zardari has underlined the necessity of taking action to ensure their safety and security.
In his speech on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the president stated, “The freedom of the press is guaranteed by the Pakistani Constitution; however, it is also the responsibility of the media to abide by journalistic ethics and report responsibly and accurately, keeping in mind the national interest.”
President Zardari also emphasised the importance of creating a welcoming atmosphere for journalists that is free from harassment and intimidation so that they can openly voice their thoughts.
