In a meeting with the chairman of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Friday, Pakistan’s Minister of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, emphasised the significance of space exploration for the country’s progress.
The minister pointed out that none of the six nations that had made successful moon landings were Islamic.
He emphasised that Muslims are encouraged to explore and conquer the cosmos by the holy Qur’an and mentioned that Muslim scientists have historically made important contributions to space science and technology.
Ahsan Iqbal proposed modernising the Institute of Space Technology and the National Centre of Excellence for Satellite and GIS (Geographic Information System), stating that Pakistan was a pioneer in space technology in South Asia in the 1960s.
