According to media reports, an economic delegation headed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb departed for Washington on Sunday in order to negotiate a new rescue package with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Next week, Pakistan and the IMF will have talks in which Islamabad will ask the international lender to approve a fresh loan package.
Following the executive board meeting, negotiations for the new loan programme will take place, and later in Washington, the finance minister is anticipated to meet with the managing director of the IMF.
The team is anticipated to meet with representatives from the World Bank and other organisations in addition to the Fund.
Prime Minister Shehbaz was informed by Aurangzeb on April 12 ahead of his trip to the United States.
