WB approves $1 bln loan for Dasu Project

After the World Bank authorised a $1 billion loan for the 2,160 megawatt Dasu Hydropower Project, Pakistan’s energy sector received a much-needed boost. The goal of this vital infrastructure project is to supply Pakistan with reasonably priced and dependable electricity.

Following several delays—earlier sources had indicated a May approval—the loan was finally approved. Official sources, however, now attest that the World Bank board approved the funding in June. This is the World Bank’s third significant investment in the Dasu project, underscoring its importance for Pakistan’s energy future.

Pakistan’s present energy problems are mostly caused by the expensive cost of power produced with fuel imported from elsewhere. Installing solar panels is a common solution for household users, companies, and even organisations like mosques and hospitals as a means of mitigating this load nationwide.
