UN rights council to consider call for Israel arms embargo

A draft resolution proposing an arms embargo on Israel will be discussed by the UN Human Rights Council, which will take note of the “plausible risk of genocide in Gaza,” according to AFP.
The top rights body of the UN would be taking a stand on the violence in Gaza for the first time if the proposed resolution is approved.
The draft expresses great concern about the consequences of explosive weapons on hospitals, schools, water, power, and shelter, and it “condemns the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects by Israel in populated areas in Gaza.”
Israel must “uphold its legal responsibility to prevent genocide,” according to the petition.
On behalf of 55 of the 56 UN members in the OIC, Pakistan submitted the document.
