While Pakistan cherishes its relationship with the United States, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated on Thursday that there were a few misconceptions during the Congressional panel hearing the day before about Pakistan’s election regulations.
During a FO weekly news briefing today, the spokesperson stated, “There were several misunderstandings regarding Pakistani election laws in the meeting of the American committee yesterday.”
A House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing titled “Pakistan After the Elections: Examining the future of Democracy in Pakistan and the US Pakistan relationship” featured US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu as a major witness the day before.
Lu demanded an investigation into the claims of electoral fraud during the hearing, stating that the US is keeping a close eye on the investigation into the suspicions of manipulation.
