Disqualifying anyone for life is against Islam: CJP Isa

Chief Justice of  the Supreme Court heard case involving the lifetime  disqualification of legislators under Article 62(1)(F) of the Constitution, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa said on Thursday that it is “against Islam” to disqualify someone from the legislature for life. The hearing was chaired by Chief Justice Prashant Isa and included the following seven members of the bench: Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and Justice Musarrat Hilali. The chief justice stated during the hearing that the court was looking for “clarity” regarding whether the aforementioned article, which addresses the requirements to run for office, stipulates five-year disqualification period for legislators or lifetime ban.
