The Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) decision to halt the appointment of a returning officer in Kohat was overturned by the Supreme Court on Tuesday in response to a plea by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The electoral board suspended its order regarding the appointment of Irfanullah as a returning officer (RO) for the provincial assembly constituency of PK-91 Kohat II, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), last week when it filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the PHC order. The electoral board requested permission to appeal under Article 185(3) of the Constitution against a judgement granted by the PHC on December 27 in petitions submitted by a candidate in the seat objecting to the selection of the returning officer through its attorney, Afnan Karim Kundi Advocate.
