General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), departed for the US on Sunday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced. This is General Munir’s first official trip to the US since taking office in November of last year. The army chief is expected to meet with senior military and other government officials in the US, according to a brief statement released by the military’s media wing. The visit by the army commander occurred one day after US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West’s two-day mission to Pakistan came to an end. Washington’s determination to “stand with Pakistan” in its war a gainst terrorism and the obstacles presented by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was communicated by the US envoy.
