Hamas attacks do not justify Israel’s punishment of Palestinian people: Russia

 Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has demanded international monitoring be placed in Gaza and stated that Israel cannot exploit the surprise strike carried out by Hamas on October 7 as an excuse to punish the Palestinian people collectively. According to AFP, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed President Vladimir Putin of Israel’s “dissatisfaction” with Russia’s support of a UN Security Council resolution urging a truce in Gaza. According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, “the prime minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the positions expressed against Israel by Russian representatives at the UN and in other forums” during their conversation.
