As of December 1, power-related enterprises’ officers of Grade 17 and higher will no longer receive free electricity units from the federal government, according to a study released on Wednesday. Instead, these officials’ wages will now be their only source of financial gain. On October 26, 2023, the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) reached the decision, which the federal cabinet then ratified. On Tuesday, the Energy Ministry’s Power Division formally announced the resolution’s implementation. “Monetisation of Free Electricity Units Admissible to Employees of WAPDA and XWAPDA Companies (DISCOs), (GENCOs), (NTDC), and Power Information Technology Company (PITC)” is the name of the initiative that requires all in-service workers in Grades 17 and above to pay the electricity bills that are issued by the corresponding DISCOs.
