Based on a year-over-year comparison, the October Consumer Price Index (CPI) was recorded at 26.9%, according to the most recent statistics provided on Wednesday by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The statistics were made public one day after the finance ministry predicted in its monthly report that inflation would remain between 27 and 29 percent. Meanwhile, according to the PBS, the CPI for urban populations was 25.5 percent, and for rural populations it was 28.9 percent. This trend is still present, primarily because of rising transportation costs. Nonetheless, the cost of food continued to be marginally higher in urban areas, with a CPI (Food) of 28.9 percent compared to 28.6 for rural residents. However, people who lived in rural areas had a significantly higher CPI (Non-Food).
