‘Soon many more will die’ from Gaza siege, says UN agency

Jerusalem: Following nearly three weeks of Israeli shelling in retaliation for Hamas staging the worst attack in its history, the UN issued warning on Friday, stating that “many more will die” in Gaza due to catastrophic shortages. The Israeli army said that as the fighting continued into its twenty-first day, its soldiers entered the Gaza Strip on foot, supported by drones and fighter jets as they readied themselves for ground invasion. As the United States warns Iran against escalation and strikes facilities in Syria it claims were utilised by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and others, concerns about the conflict’s broader effects are becoming more pressing.
