As the PTI led federal government is fighting current account deficit and longing for a quick economic rescue, PM Imran Khan continues to make brave statements against Donald Trump and America, as the government refuses to be at the weaker end and shows its enthusiasm to sail through crisis without help from IMF but cooperation from friendly countries. The Prime Minister is going through toughest ever situation – whatever he does, is either criticized for taking a wrong step or showing incompetence.
On the other hand, three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is though not behind the bars anymore but is politically dead and his successor is away from all the exposure that she previously enjoyed. The potential Shehbaz Sharif have had is now gone, he is busy trying to prove himself innocent. The junior Sharif is making all possible attempts politely in front of the public and in front of the accountability courts too, that corruption of even a single rupee has not been proven against him.
While these two men are busy clearing the mess the country and the party are exposed to respectively, there is another leader in the making who was dancing with party workers in Gilgit yesterday. The ongoing economic crisis, and seemingly long-term issues of the country have given enough room for PPP to restructure the party and revitalize the Jiyalas. As PPP went hibernating during 2013 elections, they fully utilized the leisure time while the two major parties were busy mudslinging each other.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is going slow but in the right direction. Another 3 years and the game would be over for the two major parties. Therefore, for competitive democratic rule, government must strengthen its policy making procedures in addition to the development reforms that was usually considered as motto of the previous government. Meanwhile, the competition must go on, else in the next general elections, public would be left with just one choice just as during 2018 elections.
