ISLAMABAD: Attaullah Tarar, the special assistant to the prime minister for interior and legal affairs, stated on Monday that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz had begun its election campaign with rallies in the public and that the government was prepared to hold the general election on October 8.

Speaking to the media in front of the Supreme Court, he said that the government had expressed its concerns and objections regarding a three-member bench to the Supreme Court, despite the current administration’s calls for the creation of a larger court bench. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a former prime minister andhead of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, stated on Monday that delaying the elections was in Pakistan’s best interests because it would help the nation avoid sociopolitical and economic crises.

Talking to media, he said that the constitution could not act on the whims of a single person who could violate it anytime and dissolve the assembly whenever he wanted.

Abbasi said that PML-N was a true political party that had deep roots among the masses, adding, it could not be intimidated by the threats of an incompetent person.

Replying to a question, he called for the formation of a full court bench of the Supreme Court for hearing petitions. He said the country was facing a serious economic crisis due to the Khan-led government’s bad governance, but “we brought it on road to progress”.
