‘Pakistan ranks fifth among TB high-burden countries’

Chiniot: On the occasion of World TB Day organized by District Anti-TB Association, a grand ceremony was held today on March 24 at the District TB Clinic under the supervision of Deputy Director of Social Welfare Malik Shahbaz Khan Khokhar and TB District in charge of the program was Dr. Rahmatullah Chadhar.

While addressing the ceremony, General Secretary Anti-TB Association Shaukat Ali Azad Advocate High Court informed about the disease of TB and its cure and he said that TB is a curable disease while at present Pakistan ranks fifth among the thirty countries of the world in which TB is a disease. Every year, the number of TB patients is increasing by 300,000, including 25% of children, 35% of the elderly, 25% of men and 15% of women.  According to the World Report, three million people are infected with TB every year  TB disease kills a lot now, TB treatment is easy and the duration is six months Dr. Rahmatullah Chadhar said from the ceremony that this disease can affect twenty five healthy people from one patient.  Because of this, free treatment is being provided under WHO in the government hospitals in the district and preventive medicine is also given for three months to the patient’s family members who have to take only one pill in a week, he added.  TB disease will be eradicated in Pakistan by 2035. Colleagues who died in the ceremony in which Dr. RM Yasin Haji Abdul Ghafoor Zahid Ludhianvi Arain Baqir Sagheer Ahmad Haji Muhammad Ashraf Khan Manzoor Hussain Nasir Advocate and others prayed for the recovery of the deceased.  In the condolence ceremony, ration was distributed among the deserving patients and finally a TB awareness walk was also taken out which ended with a prayer at the designated place through the designated routes.
