ISLAMABAD: Attaullah Tarar, the special assistant to the prime minister for interior and legal affairs, claimed on Wednesday that a group of corrupt intermediaries had planned to shield Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), from being charged in several corruption cases.
In a conversation with the media, Tarar alleged that the facilitators wanted to elevate Imran to the highest position not only to shield him from prosecution but also to use his position to protect his illicit funds. In spite of the evidence, Tarar charged the facilitators with obstructing justice and preventing the conclusion of investigations into Tyrian White, foreign funding, and other cases involving Toshakhana. Facilitators were working to thwart government efforts to hold guilty parties accountable.
He claimed that Imran Khan had sold precious Toshakhana gifts on the black market, earning billions of rupees. Tarar also condemned Imran Khan’s smear campaign against military and civil officers on social media and his threats towards them. Imran Khan would have to face accountability for his corrupt practices despite his efforts.
Tarar also criticized Zalmay Khalilzad’s statement, claiming that a Jewish lobby had come forward to protect Imran Khan. He also accused PTI of developing Maryam Nawaz phobia due to their inner fears and stated that Maryam had made unmatched sacrifices during the brutal tenure of PTI.
