Multan: Two days International Conference on Microbiology and Genetics inaugurated at Women University with the theme of “Emerging Trends and Technologies in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics for Sustainable Development”. Experts in the field of microbiology and genetics from all over the world participated in the conference. The guest of honor was former Vice Chancellor WUM Prof. Dr. Shahida Husnain and chief guest was Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Uzma Quraishi. Addressing the inauguration session Dr. Shahida Hussain, said that this conference will greatly boost the biodiversity resources at the disposal of trillion dollars industry of health care, food and energy. She said that biodiversity of Pakistan is a rich canvass for researchers of the world to take advantage and work for. She said education, innovation, development of science and technology and political will of visionary leadership are the four pillars of prosperity. Today the role of the universities has changed. Universities must assume the role of innovation promoting knowledge hubs with an ultimate aim of promotion of indigenous development. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Uzma Qureshi said that the entire world was facing enormous challenges relating to climate change and biodiversity, adding that Pakistan is one of the vulnerable countries, where high increase in population has been responsible for the exploitation of natural resources.VC Dr. Uzma Quraishi said that Women University has taken initiative to host this important event, which is aimed at providing a platform to researchers and experts in the field of nanotechnology and biodiversity, making it possible for them to share their expert views and research.
