Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, has declared that a power show will take place at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday.
A sizable contingent of PTI members and supporters came out to the Imran Khan-led rally. The rally arrived at Data Darbar after traveling through various routes, where the PTI leader addressed the workers. At a campaign rally in Lahore, Imran Khan spoke to PTI activists and supporters, accusing the “imported government” of putting restrictions in place to muzzle their voices. He continued by saying that no one should ever forget the martyred PTI activist Zille Shah.
He promised punishment for the police officers who killed Zille Shah. Khan stated that this is a fight for the entire country, not just for himself. “Despite dangers to my life, I walk the streets. Currently, our nation is in danger of disintegrating, and we are fighting for true independence. According to the PTI leader, the nation will achieve true independence when the law is given supremacy. He claimed that the PTI rivals had been trying to discredit him, but the Toshakhana case had exposed their fabrications. If information about foreign funding for Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) is made public, he continued, more revelations will follow.
He added that PTI rivals want to oust his political party from the elections and using all tactics. He said that the people are standing in support of jihad for real independence. Khan said that he will hold a power show in daylight to show the PTI’s massive support.
He announced to hold a power show at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
Earlier, PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Monday announced a power show at Minar-i-Pakistan on March 19 as the party’s twice-delayed election rally was finally taken out peacefully.
The rally was originally scheduled for Saturday and then Sunday but was postponed after the party failed to get relief either from the Election Commission or the Lahore High Court against the caretaker Punjab government’s order of imposing Section 144 in the provincial capital.
The interim Punjab government had imposed Section 144 citing a Pakistan Super League match in the Qaddafi Stadium and a marathon race in the city. However, in a notification on Sunday, the administration had allowed the PTI to take out the public rally on Monday (today) but mentioned that it would carry “high-security risk due to the general and specific threats against political gatherings and previous instance of attack on the ex-prime minister”.
The permission was given after an undertaking by the organiser to the “effect that in case of any untoward incident he shall be held responsible”. The notification had also barred speeches against the constitutional offices, including the military and judiciary.
