At least nine members of the Balochistan Constabulary were martyred and 13 injured in a bombing on Monday in Bolan, according to police in Quetta.
The casualties were confirmed to the media by Kachhi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahmood Notezai. He explained, “An explosion took place on the Kambri bridge in the area bordering the Sibi and Kachhi districts while the constabulary van was on its way back to Quetta from Sibi. The police van was struck by a motorcyclist who was allegedly a suicide bomber, the official said. The precise nature of the attack, he added, would be known only after an investigation. The injured have been transported to the Sibi Civil Hospital, and bomb squads and security personnel have arrived, according to SSP Notezai.
He added that a search operation was in progress and that the area had been cordoned off. The police vehicle was photographed in the aftermath lying on its side on the road with its windows broken. The injured officers were later flown from Bolan to Quetta by a government helicopter, according to a statement released by the Balochistan Information Department. Hospitals all over Quetta have also been placed under an emergency. The provincial police force’s Balochistan Constabulary (BC) division provides security at significant events and in sensitive locations, including jails. No one has taken responsibility for the attack as of yet.
