Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated on Sunday that locking people up won’t help the nation’s failing economy.
Putting one another in jail won’t help Pakistan’s economic situation, Khaqan asserted at a press conference in Karachi. He suggested setting up a commission to determine what factors are contributing to the decline in the economy. The former prime minister regretted that the political system lacked the ability to handle the problems facing the nation. Before the PML-N came to power, he claimed, he was unaware of the economic crisis that Pakistan was going through. Because we all belong to different political parties, he continued, “we are all responsible for finding a solution to the problems facing the country.”
According to the former prime minister, “establishment interference” in politics led to instability in a democracy. The PML-N leader also reaffirmed that everything was fine between him and the party and that the interest of the nation was their top priority. Abbasi claimed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the nation’s anti-graft watchdog, is the reason why governments fail to last. He inquired as to how many politicians NAB held responsible. According to Abbasi, “the institutions are not operating within their constitutional bounds.” Speaking about Friday’s attack on the Karachi Police Office, the former premier noted that the nation had previously experienced similar regrettable events and difficulties. He asserted that these difficulties also needed to be overcome at this time.
The ex prime minister claimed that that the PML-N had been involved in cases and he doesn’t want to end the cases against him. He said, “I challenge the NAB to hold hearings every day and either acquit us or convict us.” The politician claimed that the accountability organization questioned him on all topics except whether or not he is a tax payer. “The tax system itself clears the situation if [anyone] wants to do the accountability,” Abbasi continued.
Meanwhile, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, a former senator and current member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), who was present with Khaqan, stated that “terrorism is rearing its head, which is the failure of political parties. He said that all parties conference couldn’t be held on the audacious suicide attack on the police lines mosque in Peshawar.
“Is there any single institution in the country that can fulfil its constitutional responsibility,” he asked. He added that it was high time that they discuss the issues together.
