ISLAMABAD: Mufti Abdul Shakoor, the Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, said on Monday that the religious and secular spheres of society are at war with one another in this day and age. Speaking to a 20-person Sikh delegation that had come to visit him here in the ministry, he said that followers of all religions should come together and promote their virtues in the world in the proper ways. The delegation was led by Pardhan Sardar Ameer Singh of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (PSGPC), which also included Dr. Mimpal Singh, a member of the National Commission for Minorities, and Hassan Abdal.
Welcoming the delegation, Minister Abdul Shakoor said the worship of the Sikh religion was incomplete without Nankana Sahib. On this occasion, the delegates agreed that Pakistan was a model nation for the protection of minorities and that the Sikh community and their places of worship were safe there. They said that the management of places of worship had significantly improved after the PSGPC was established in 1999. They continued by describing the challenges faced by the Sikh Yatris traveling from India to Kartarpur. In their meeting with the minister, the delegates also offered a number of recommendations for the benefit of the Pakistani Sikh community.
The minister pledged to give the suggestions made by the Sikh delegation serious consideration and implementation.
