ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing has filed a sedition case against Senator Shaukat Tarin, a former finance minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for allegedly undermining talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Due to an alleged audio leak that appeared online, the former finance minister was charged under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). The audio leak was motivated by malice, according to Arshad Mehmood’s first information report (FIR). The FIR contains allegations of sedition and provocation.
A day earlier, the coalition government allowed the FIA to arrest the former finance minister after the agency sought the interior ministry’s nod to detain him.
