Everything that a common man wanted to hear from the Federal Minister for Finance Asad Umar was ignored in his speech at 100 days performance event organized in Islamabad. All the ministries aside, what this nation was looking for were answers to inflation, hope for a better future, job opportunities and business opportunities. At present government and sugar mills association has locked horns, they are unable to export the excessive produce, urea producers were supposed to get gas at cheaper rates but not only they had to stop production due to fulfillment of promises but also urea was imported which requires subsidy from the government.

Tariff for gas and electricity have also seen sharp raises, petrol is on the increase despite the dip in the global market during 100 days. People from different organizations were sacked, their contracts weren’t renewed in a bid to foil ‘nefarious designs’ of the last government which was led by PMLN. Nation was expecting to be complaint redressal speech, but Finance Minister was busy taking a jibe at Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif.

On such a positive event which was supposed to be a main focus towards prosperity and development, Mr. Umar found refuge in hiding the incompetence behind his jokes. Finance Minister must add the number of persons who lost jobs due to economic crunch and policies without road map to the total number of 10 million jobs and must clarify if the government is going to give those people jobs who just got sacked first who belong to ‘Purana Pakistan’ or to those who shall belong to the new one.

The industry under crunch including media with food and fruit vendors, retailers or transporters have experienced a downward trend – the gloom these affectees are going through has to be tackled on priority and Prime Minister must position support brains to work with finance ministry to help country sail through crisis and help people come out of depression. Undoubtedly, PM Imran Khan is able enough to handle the competence crisis within the party.
